What Does “Desi Ghoti” Mean? Hand-Pounded Chilli Explained

If you have seen “desi ghoti” on a jar, here is what it means in plain words.

Ghoti means pounded by hand

In Urdu and Punjabi kitchens, a dori danda is the traditional mortar and pestle. To make desi ghoti mirch, the red chilli is pounded by hand in the dori danda instead of being only ground in a machine. The word “ghoti” or “ghuti hui” simply means pounded.

Why we make it this way

Cooker Master Red Chilli Paste is made in the desi ghoti way, with red chilli, ginger, garlic, pink salt and vinegar. Our label says Pure, Natural and Homemade, and the line “taste of a mother’s hand” describes the kind of cooking we want it to bring to your kitchen.
